How to easily print associated documents from a VISUAL macro

Document Maintenance gives you the ability to centralize operational documents and associate (link) them to items in VISUAL.

For example – you may want to reference several files relating to a specific part – an image, a schematic diagram, certificate, installation instructions, etc

All good stuff.

You can access these files anytime and send them to the printer when needed.  In some cases, you can print all the associated files along with the item they are attached to.  For example, when printing the work order Traveller – you can have VISUAL print all the associated documents of the work order at the same time.

I want to show you how you can also send files directly to the printer using a macro – and quite easily too!

It only takes 4 lines of code to send a file to the printer

Just replace [Enter File Path] and [Enter File Name] with the proper file information

Now why would you want to do this using a macro?

Well – I like options 🙂

And I like looking for ways to be more efficient at getting things done – like having a choice of which files to print at once.

Below is an example where I created an simple HTML interface, called from a macro, listing all the associated files of an engineering master.

The user can select which files they want (checkbox) and hit the PRINT button to send them off to the printer.

The solution above involves a little HTML know-how, a query to the Document Reference tables AND using the 4 simple lines of code mentioned above.
